Daily sessions begin with discussions of reading, followed by afternoon workshops in which students write, revise, and discuss their peers' work.

Students have the opportunity to meet several working writers in different fields through in-class visits.

Workshop leaders write with their students, and there is frequent sharing of this informal writing, both in small groups and in the class as a whole.

Discussions of assigned readings—mostly contemporary poems, stories, and essays—is informal and speculative.
