Nā te whanau o Tāmaki Paenga Hira Ki te Moananui-a-Kiwa me Aotearoa whānui Ko tenēi te karanga o te manu, Hui hui mai tātou From Tāmaki Paenga Hira Across the Pacific and Aotearoa The call of the manu cries Let us gather together Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum is Auckland’s place of gathering, welcome and orientation, where we share knowledge of our taonga (treasures) and explore the many stories of Tāmaki. We have completed needed heritage restoration work to Auckland’s iconic Domain building.

This Strategic Plan sets out our direction for the next five years. Over the next five years, we will undertake a range of building and gallery improvement works that will renew the building as Auckland’s war memorial and a key cultural destination.

At the heart of the changes will be our new Tāmaki galleries, to be launched at the end of 2019.

These will share the stories of our people and our place, resonating both with Aucklanders and our growing international audiences.Over the past five years, we have invested in the care of the collections and the iconic Domain building. We have reached more people – onsite, offsite and online – and made a strong contribution to the wider Auckland economy. In our 2012 3-Year Business Plan, we posted the long-term vision of “Aiming to be a World Leader in the Non-Ferrous Metals Industry and an Excellent Company of Japan”, and promoted growth strategy toward achievement of this vision. In the 18 3-Yr Plan, we are continuing to promote growth strategy to accomplish our long-term vision, however, we have made it simpler by rephrasing it as “Becoming a World Leader in the Non-Ferrous Metals Industry,” in the belief that “an excellent company of Japan” is included in the definition of “World Leader in the Non-Ferrous Metals Industry.” To achieve it, we set our targets as follows: [Nickel] annual production of 150,000 tons, [Copper] annual production interests of 300,000 tons, [Gold] new participation in mine operations through the acquisition of superior interests, [Materials business] achievement of annual profit before tax of 25 billion yen through portfolio management, [Profit] annual net income 150.0 billion yen.We will also deepen our engagement for individual visitors and audience groups, sharpen our business and operating models, and grow and diversify our income. We see Auckland Museum as the place to discover Auckland – past, present and future – asking questions and stimulating debate about this city and its evolving identity. In this Five-Year Strategic Plan, we set out our medium-term priorities. We are planning for the steadily rising levels of engagement and participation onsite, offsite and online in order to meet the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse Auckland. The objectives in the Auckland Plan and Toi Whītiki – the Arts and Culture Strategic Action Plan for Auckland – are at the heart of what we believe and do.Our vision at Auckland Museum is ‘He Oranga Tangata Ka Ao – Enriching lives: Inspiring Discoveries’.
