Mahatma Gandhi, the political father of modern India, was his devoted friend. Gradually with the publication of his works, he had become successful in his native Bengal. It is perhaps the most acclaimed collection of Tagore’s poems.Tagore was also an early Tagore’s wife died in 1902 and the next year one if his daughters died. From time to time, Tagore participated in the Indian nationalist movement in his own visionary way. His short stories were published monthly in a friend’s magazine, and he even played the lead role in a few of the public performances. Gradually with the publication of his works, Tagore had become successful in his native Bengal.In February 1873, at age 11, Tagore went on a tour of India with his father. They visited many places in India, including Amritsar in Punjab (British India), and Dalhousie in the Himalayas.Tagore also visited his father’s estate at Shantiniketan.
